It's Your Choice - Analyzing Influences 7th Grade, the first skills-based e-learning course from Children's Wisconsin, is now available for teachers and counselors to use with seventh grade students. In short, the analyzing influences skill is the ability to analyze both internal and external influences that affect health-realted decisions. Because we know that content knowledge is still a critical component of a skills-based curriculum, It's Your Choice - Analyzing Influences thoughtfully combines the skill of analyzing influences with important Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs Prevention content, offering students engaging ways to make their own personal health decisions.
In this uniquely blended course, students will be guided through the content by a group of characters as they learn about the different influences in their lives, including internal and external influences, media and technology, and social norms, and learn how to analyze the impact these influences have on health behaviors. They'll also learn about different drugs, types of drugs, and the impact they can have on overall health and wellness. They'll hear from students about why they choose not to drink or use drugs, they'll practice identifying different types of alcohol advertisements, and then reflect on what they've learned by completing some real-life scenarios to determine what influences had an impact on various health decisions.
The program aligns with National Health Education Standards and Wisconsin State Health Education Standards and is an innovative way to incorporate vital skills-based content along with Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs prevention content. You will be able to track students' progress in the course, and pre- and post-tests allow you to see their knowledge and comprehension as they move through the course.
